Mr. Charles “Luther” Mathis, age 74, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away on August 2, 2018 at his home. Born in Fannin County, GA, he was the son of the late William Clarence Mathis and Flora Mae Franklin Mathis. After retiring from Commercial Contracting, Luther later retired again from the Fannin County Road Department as the Road Superintendent. He was a lifelong member of Lebanon Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years and also served on the cemetery committee. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and was an avid outdoorsman. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Ritchie Mathis.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Melinda and Richard Rymer, Betty Jo and Gary Stanley, Joe Joe and Dale Mathis and Wesley and Jessica Jones; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Fayrene Mathis, Clint and Betty Mathis, Tommy and JoAnn Mathis; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Anna Lou and Leland Postelle and Carol and Charley Thomas; grandchildren, Jarrod (Jessica) Stanley, Brady (Whitney) Stanley, Miranda (David) Stewart, Anthony (Sheena) Rymer, and Tyler Jones; great grandchildren, Roni Rymer, Brantley Stewart, Addie Davis, and Averi Davis.
Funeral Services were conducted on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the Lebanon Baptist Church with Min. Keith Ritchie and Rev. Charlie Wellham officiating. Music was provided by Robby Mathis, Raven Welch, Brett Cantrell and Kirk Barker. Interment followed in the church cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Brady Stanley, Jarrod Stanley, Robert Ensley, Tyler Jones, Anthony Rymer and David Stewart. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Carl Franklin, Marcus Stahl, Jerry Hubbard, Steve Christopher, Charlie Thomas and Deacons of Lebanon Baptist Church. Flowers are acceptable, however donations may be made to the Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at P.O. Box 309 Epworth, GA 30541.
