Five Fannin County Young Farmers Association members attended the Georgia Young Farmers State Convention at Chateau Elan in Braselton Feb. 2 and 3. President Kenny Queen and Teri Long served as voting delegates. Teri Long, Tayelor Long, Cherie White, and Theresa Wollschlager entered the photography contest and Teri Long won second place in the Sunbelt Ag Expo division and won $50.00. Candice Ray and Rhonda Mathews entered the chapter display in the chapter display competition. Tayelor Long and Maddie Mathews entered the cornhole tournament and advanced to the second round. Tayelor Long represented the chapter in the spokesperson competition and placed in the top five. There are 59 Young Farmer chapters statewide with over 6,000 members. Georgia Superintendent of Schools Richard Wood, Georgia Career Technical and Agriculture Education Director Dr. Barbara Wall, Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary Black, and Georgia Program Director for Agriculture Education John “Chip” Bridges addressed the group. Both a live and silent auction were held to raise funds for the GYFA. Thank you to Mercier Orchards for donating a basket in FCYFA’s name.
There was a trade show and expo with over 40 agriculture company representatives present. It was a time to reflect and celebrate a successful year of promoting Georgia’s Agricultural Industry.
