This past Tuesday, the Lady Rebels traveled to Greater Atlanta Christian to take on the Lady Spartans. The Rebels came ready to play in hopes of getting their tenth win of the season.
The Lady Spartans worked great together and managed to find open teammates wherever they were on the court. The Lady Rebels scored the majority of their points off of layups while the Lady Spartans did the same. GAC had a 18-9 lead over Fannin at the end of the first quarter.
GAC showed no mercy to Fannin and full court pressed them the whole game. The Lady Rebels had good looks up the court, resulting in points. Maddie Johnson put seven points on the board for the Rebels by driving through the Spartans defense. Maleah Stepp also contributed seven points to the Lady Rebels score with her hustle. As the buzzer sounded to end the second quarter, the Lady Spartans had a 55-20 lead over the Lady Rebels.
As the Spartans score increased, the Lady Rebels intensity decreased. The Rebels had trouble communicating on defense which led to the Spartans driving right through the middle of their defense, resulting in more points. Fannin started to look inside and found Lady Rebel post, Hope Franklin. Franklin got aggressive on the block and contributed seven points for her team. Bailey Whitener had grit downlow and drew a foul, resulting in one more point for the Lady Rebels. The Lady Spartans had the lead over the Lady Rebels at the end of the third quarter with a score of 55-20.
Lady Rebel, Abby Ledford, went in for Fannin and added two points to their score with her determination. Despite the Lady Rebels efforts, they were unable to catch up to the Lady Spartans. GAC walked away with a 71-24 victory over Fannin.
The Lady Rebels loss puts their overall record at 9-13 while the Spartans stand at 19-3. Catch the Lady Rebels next game on February 7 as they travel to take on North Hall at East Hall starting at 6:00!
