Spartans Spear the Rebels

Team FYN Sports

The Spartans traveled to Fannin County to take on the Rebels for their journey to victory. The Spartans were looking to continue their winning streak of four games while the Rebels were fighting for their fourth win of the season.

Greater Atlanta Christian started off with the ball from tip-off and kept it for most of the game. The majority of the game when the Rebels had the ball on offense, it would result in the Spartans stealing it and scoring. Payton Holt led the Rebels in scoring with twelve points due to his ability to make outside shots. Greater Atlanta Christian did most of their damage by driving the lane which resulted in Hunter McIntosh leading the Spartans in scoring with twenty-one points. The Spartans had a 29-6 lead over the Rebels at the end of the first quarter.

Fannin relied on passes to open teammates to score. Rebel, Chandler Kendall, had good looks inside to Ryan Beavers. Beavers was playing scrappy on the block when an injury forced him to leave the game. Another post for the Rebels, Joel Kinser, got to start in the game after recovering from a concussion that forced him to sit out a few games prior. Kinser contributed four points overall for Fannin. Nathaniel Garrison had a good game from the block where he got rebounds and added two points to Fannin’s score. GAC had a 60-14 lead over Fannin at the end of the second quarter.

Even with the Rebels score so far behind the Spartans, Joe Satchell was not giving up. Satchell contributed six points for his team with his grit. Payton Holt had ankle-breaking moves above the key while Nathaniel Garrison had blocks down low. The Spartans outside shooting came alive which extended their lead over the Rebels 72-26 at the end of the third.

A new group of five went in for the Rebels at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Cohutta Hyde drove the lane and contributed four points for his team. Jalen Ingram and Gabe Buchanan had good games with rebounds and moves down low. Freshman, Brady Martin, got after it on defense and drew fouls. Chase Culpepper wrapped up the game with a three point buzzer beater, putting the score at 84-31 with GAC walking away with the win.

The Rebels loss puts their overall record at 3-13 while the Spartans stand at 12-3. Catch the Rebels game tonight as they take on Lumpkin County at home starting at 6:30!
