BLUE RIDGE, GA – The 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program released it’s list of top scoring students in our nation. Among those to receive recognition is Fannin County High School’s Rowan Shewmake.
Out of more than 1.6 million entries, only about 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers.
Rowan Shewmake is one of those 34,000 to receive this honor.
This isn’t the first honor Shewmake has received. Last year, Shewmake was awarded a scholarship for his outstanding work in the field of science.
“I’m planning on going to college to study Physics at Georgia Tech,” Shewmake said when asked about his future academic plans. Shewmake explained that ultimately he would like to attend Princeton University.
A spokesperson from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation said, “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
