FCHS FFA Members Attend National Convention

Eleven Fannin County High School FFA members attended the 89th National FFA Convention which was held in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 18-22.  While in Indianapolis the group attended the opening session which featured keynote speaker Diana Nyad, Author and long distance swimmer, toured the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indiana Downs, were treated to a Cole Swindell and Chris Young concert, attended a presentation on beef cattle reproduction at one of the largest Angus farms in America Willow Creek Angus, also attended a World’s Toughest Rodeo performance, and spent an afternoon at the Indianapolis Zoo.

Rhonda Mathews, FCHS agriculture teacher and FFA advisor and Fannin County FFA Alumni member and former FFA member Brittany Whitener chaperoned the trip.

One hundred and two Georgia FFA members received the prestigious American FFA Degree, the highest degree offered to an active FFA member. These students spent years developing their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs to reach this honor. Hunter Patterson represented Fannin County High FFA Chapter as he received this prestigious honor.

The Georgia FFA Association was recognized as a membership growth state. This marks the 18th consecutive year that the Georgia FFA has increased in FFA membership. Georgia was represented in Indianapolis by 25 official voting delegates, and more than 1,500 local FFA members, advisors and Alumni from across the state.

More than 65,000 FFA members, advisors and guests attended the 89th National FFA Convention. The theme for the convention was Transform. A complete set of results and a variety of highlights from the 89th National FFA Convention can be found by logging on to www.georgiaffa.org.

There are more than 649,355 FFA members nationwide. The Georgia Association has over 41,000 members, making it the third largest Association in the nation.
