Republican But Not Conservative…

Opinion

Opinion by George McClellan:In January, the Republicans will be in total control of both houses of Congress. Yeah! But, conservatives will not be. Speaker Boehner’s pledge to “fight tooth and nail after November 20th”, was simply BS from the lovers of big government. The CR Omnibus bill is proof of that! 1600 pages of entitlements, pork barrel spending and greasing the palms of weak congressmen for their votes on supporting larger government spending on, well, basically, crap? It is correct to say that, at the moment, Harry Reid is still calling the shots but that will soon end. Boehner didn’t even make a gesture to satisfy the base that put them there and tried to cover their perfidy with blatant lies. They even lied to their own house members. How’s that for trust?

On November 4th, American voters sent Washington DC the strongest possible message that could ever have been delivered by an electorate: A smashing election victory. NO MORE, we said!. No more what? How about ignoring the constitution? We are told the new bill, which the old congress had to vote on to see what was in it, did have some defunding of bureaucracies here and there, rather like nibbling around the edges, that sort of thing. That any congressmen could vote for such a bill, unread, puts them in Pelosi’s camp after the Obamacare vote fiasco.

I remember a couple of new congressmen going up there recently pledging that every bill must pass the test of Constitutionality before they would vote on it; that every bill would be read before they would vote on it. I remember the House Speaker, after the 2010 elections, pledge that all bills would be on the internet for seventy-two hours before coming to the floor. What happened? 1600 pages in one day that nobody read or could read, yet the arm twisting and lying went on and on until enough votes to pass that damn thing was assured. A victory for Boehner’s leadership! Well, not in my book. Vote for the leadership, not the American taxpayers.

A casual examination of that snake den up there reveals the obvious: the head snakes are nearing geriatric age and will soon be gone. The base has actually sent a bunch of real conservative youngsters up there who will soon be the leaders. It’s a slow process but sadly, it’s during that slow process that the cancer of big money creeps in to slowly erode the resolve and will of once enthusiastic conservative law makers. That’s the truth of the matter.

Congress is corrupting. To be in Congress is to face the pressures to go along with the program. The program is corrupted and the lure of easy pressure free living is nearly impossible to ignore. Chairmanships are gifts and very few have escape the clutches of good ol’ boy membership.

We have been dealt a pretty good hand none the less. Where we go wrong, as conservative voters, is by not following up on our victories and staying involved. We must keep a constant flow of communications to our representatives and senators. We must educate ourselves on issues and ask them questions on the important issues they are facing. We must not, we cannot expect somebody else to do that for us. Take the time when they are at home in their districts to attend the town hall meetings and hold them to their promises. Keep notes and, when ever a representative figures he can’t stand the pressure and cancels or does not even schedule a public meeting, strike him or her off and immediately work toward that persons removal.

When a representative claims their chairmanship of this committee or that is too important to lose, then the claim had better be supported by conservative evidence. Lacking any evidence of such accomplishment, consider the claims even more BS and move rapidly to vet a capable and willing replacement. Time is too short to waste on liars. Remember, freedom is the goal, the constitution is the way. Now, go get ‘em! (16 Dec 2014)
