The Fannin County High School Rebels football team, traveled south to Gilmer County to take on the rival, Bobcats. It was the first game in the new Jim Pavao era at FCHS. It undoubtedly did not go the way Pavao, planned, as the Rebels got routed, 41-7.The Rebels’ defense began the game on a good note, forcing a three and out after Jerod Petty’s pass break up on third and ten of the opening drive; however, a pick six on the ensuing Fannin possession put the Rebels down, 7-0 with 9:25 left in the first quarter.
The Rebels took full advantage, as sophomore quarterback, Brad Davis, completed a 15 yard touchdown pass to Dakota Archie. With 5:20 left in the first quarter, the game was tied, 7-7.
Unfortunately for the Fannin faithful, Fannin failed to find the end zone again the rest of the night. A 42 yard Bobcats’ touchdown run on the next drive, put the home team up 13-7 after a missed extra point. Another Gilmer TD saw the Rebels take a 20-7 deficit into halftime.
The second half saw Fannin falling further behind, as the Rebels simply could not put a drive together on offense and could not stop Gilmer’s ground game on defense, leading to the 41-7 loss.
The Rebels will next host the Indians of Murray County, Friday September 5th at 7:30.
