Mr. Johnson was born in Cherokee County NC, on June 1, 1925 to the late Patton & Venner (Martin) Johnson . Taking his horse and single foot plow, He would help their gardens take shape and even plant for them for just 50 cents a day. This allowed him to buy his own overalls, shirts and shoes. When Wayne had grown to be a young man, he placed his faith in God. He was a member of New Hope Church of God. Later, he received the call to preach the Gospel and was pastor of several churches over the years. He believed in raising his 7 children with discipline and keeping them involved in the church.

Wayne was blessed with a wonderful wife for 67 years. When he lost her, he lost his best friend and soul mate. Now they are rejoicing together in a Heavenly Reunion! During his stay at the Alzheimer’s Unit, he would often say, ” God bless your sweet soul, If I don’t see you no more here on this earth, meet me in Heaven”.
