After months of feuding that resulted in a court case, the tax dispute is over in Fannin. Fannin County BOC held a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday. The main topic: Resolution of the Fannin County Board of Tax Assessors. The meeting was back to a normal setting as the board quickly tabled a Right of Way Easement and denying a contract extension with Advanced Disposal.

The board then re-appointed Ron Bolin and Joe Webb to the Library Board with little discussion.

After the appointment the mood in the room became tense as Chairman Simonds began reading a Resolution to revise term limits for the Board of Assessors. When the Chairman was finished a quick motion was made to accept the Resolution followed by a unanimous vote.

Chairman Simonds once again took to the microphone and began reading the appointees and the Resolution to adopt Lane Bishop, Nathan Henson, and Sonia Smith as the new BOA.

Once the Resolution had been read, Simonds asked for discussion from the board.

Post Commissioner Larry Joe Sosebee quickly stated to the three new board members,

“I ask each and every one of you thats been appointed to this not be persuaded by anyone of these commissioners setting up here. Be persons of your own.”

Post Commissioner Earl Johnson gave the board advice of his own stating,

“You have a HUGE job to undertake. I wish you all the luck in getting the problems fixed. In all you do ask yourself is this fair to every taxpayer in the county.”

Once the discussion came to an end Commissioner Sosebee made a motion to adopt the Resolution followed by a second by Commissioner Johnson with a unanimous vote.

The new board is set to be sworn in on Thursday by the Honorable Judge Bradley.
