On Thursday afternoon October 31, Fannin County Fire/EMS responded to the Dial area of Highway 60 to locate a lost hunter. The subject was actually able to use his cell phone to call 911 and from that we were able to pinpoint his location and send a crew into the woods to bring him out. He had been tracking a bear and became disoriented and unable to find his way out of the woods himself. 6 of our Wilderness SAR team (Search and Rescue Team) responded to the call and used both the EMA/fire department’s 6 wheeler and 4 wheeler to get into the area where the subject became lost, then they went the rest of the distance on foot using GPS to guide them. The Team recovered the subject and brought him back to his vehicle.
