FREE MEALS FOR KIDS TO BE OFFERED BY FANNIN COUNTY RECREATION DEPARTMENT

The Fannin County Recreation Department is providing meals this summer to children who may get little to eat at home.

The summer food service program sponsored by the recreation department feeds between 200 and 250 children two meals each day. Breakfast is served between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at the Fannin County Multi-Purpose Recreation Center’s cafeteria and lunch is served between 12 noon and 1:30 p.m.

The meals are available Monday through Friday to children under 18 years old. No children are accepted due to national origin, race, sex, or disability.

To determine who qualifies for the meals, the recreation department uses the criteria the Fannin school system uses for free and reduced meals.

Children who live in food stamp or AFDC-assisted households are eligible. The meals program will begin June 3rd and will be serving through July 19th.

The program is administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It reimburses the Recreation Department for the meals.

The Fannin County Board of Education has provided a nutritionist for the summer to assemble the program menus.

The program feeds summer school students, as well as day camp attendees also.
