Letter to the Editor, Mountain Education Charter High School

Opinion

Mountain Education Charter High School (MECHS) is a self-paced state-accredited high school where students can earn a diploma rather than a GED. Our students come to Mountain Education under various circumstances. For some students, they do not find success in traditional day school while others need to work during regular school hours. Mountain Education works to provide a free education for our students by offering classes Monday-Thursday evenings from 4-8. The Fannin site of Mountain Education has been serving local students since August 2011 and meets at Fannin Middle School.

Many of our students have overcome major obstacles to earn a high school diploma. Each student who enrolls at Mountain Education learns about post secondary options available to him/her through college presentations, earning college credit while in high school, and taking college fieldtrips. After graduation, we encourage all of our students to earn some type of post secondary education. In today’s society it is difficult to find a job, but even more so without any type of postsecondary education.

Transportation and child care costs can prevent our students from earning any type of post secondary education. If any student deserves a scholarship to help with college expenses, it would be a Mountain Education student. As graduation season approaches, we are asking that local businesses, churches, clubs, organizations, and individuals remember our students and donate to help better a student’s life.
Scholarship contributions are tax-deductible and any amount will be accepted. If you are interested in donating to Fannin Mountain Education Charter High School scholarship fund, please contact us at (706) 632-6100. Checks can be mailed to 4560 Old Hwy. 76 Blue Ridge, GA 30513. Thank you for supporting our students!

Sincerely,
Fannin MEC Staff
