The Fannin County High School wrestling team recognized the roots of the Rebels’ program by acknowledging the USA Wrestling youth program midway between the duals matches between Hayesville and Murray. In a brief ceremony FCHS head wrestling coach Joshua Snyder introduced nine wrestlers from the youth program to the audience. Fannin fell to both Hayesville and Murray 53-28 and 52-30, respectively.Fannin first faced the Yellow Jackets of Hayesville. Following a forfeit in Fannin’s favor, Ben Bruce began by securing four more team points via a 15-5 decision at the 113 lbs weight class. Fannin led 10-0 after Bruce’s match.
However, Hayesville followed with a forfeit in its favor with seven straight wins via pin or tech for a 47-10 lead. Another forfeit in Fannin’s favor forced a stop to the bleeding.
Blake Carroll followed the forfeit with a pin at 195, giving Fannin 22 total team points. Ben Graham added six more team points with a pin at 220. Fannin fell 53-28.
After the Hayesville match, Snider recognized the following Fannin youth wrestlers: Harrison Brown; Carson Callahan; Cason Collis; Taylor Collis; Caleb McTaggart; Ridge Ware; Malachy Johnston; Blake Rodgers; and Tyler Ware.
Fannin faced the Mountaineers of Murray after the youth wrestlers were recognized.
Murray led 6-0 after a Fannin forfeit; however, Matthew Seabolt tied the match with a pin at 120. Following a forfeit in Fannin’s favor, the Rebels led 12-6. However, five straight pins by Murray put the Mountaineers up 30-12.
Chris Payne brought the pain, winning his match at 182 with a vicious headlock for a pin that cut the lead to 36-18. Following another forfeit in Fannin’s favor, the Rebels cut the lead to 36-24.
Murray won the next three matches, two by pin, to take a 52-24 lead. Ben Bruce’s pin at 113 was the last win of the night. Fannin fell 52-30.
