The Fannin Lady Rebels and Rebels closed the final day of the ETC Piedmont Mountainside Tip-Off Tournament with a pair of wins over the Copper Basin Lady Cougars and Cougars, leaving both of Fannin’s teams with a 2-1 record in the tournament. The Lady Rebels, despite being awarded the Runner Up Trophy early in the day, finished in a three way tie for first place.
The opening game of the afternoon pitted the Lady Rebels against a Lady Cougars’ team that was looking to avoid being shut out of the win column. A fast start by Fannin gave the team a 12-4 lead after the end of the first quarter, and from that point on the team never looked back.
Up 26-12 at the half, the Lady Rebels sealed the deal in the third quarter, allowing only one point while scoring seven to increase their advantage to 33-13 going into the final quarter. When it was all said and done, the Lady Rebels won the game by the final score of 46-23.
Morgan Chastain used her hot hand behind the arc to lead the Lady Rebels in scoring with twelve points in the victory. Four Fannin players—Chastain, Courtney Satterfield, Logan O’Neal, and Anna Ware—finished the contest with six points or more. Lindsey Humphrey got the job done on defense, successfully pulling off three steals.
Three Lady Rebels were named to the All-Tournament team: Hope Cochran, Lindsey Humphrey, and Logan O’Neal.
The next game of the day saw the Rebels take on the Cougars, a team that was definitely hungry for a victory. These two squads traded shots back and forth throughout the first half of play, with Fannin leading by the slim margin of 20-16 at halftime.
Copper Basin would answer Fannin with a fourteen point outburst in the third quarter of play, leaving the Rebels with a slim 31-30 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Now in a highly contested battle with the Cougars, the Rebels turned up the pace in the final quarter, outscoring Copper Basin 23-10 to win the game 54-40.
Austin Rhodes led the Rebels in scoring with seventeen points in the win. Rhodes, Jonathan Vecchio, and Will Patterson all ended the game with at least ten points. Jason Arp led the squad in rebounding with seven in the contest.
Three Rebels were named to the All-Tournament team: Will Patterson, Austin Rhodes, and Jonathan Vecchio.
Fannin’s next set of games are on the road against Hiwassee Dam Eagles on Tuesday, November 27th. The junior varsity squads will play at 4:00 p.m. with the varsity girls’ game following at 6:30 p.m. and the boys’ game at its conclusion.
