Rebels Ride to War with Spartans, Emerge Victorious 31-8

The Fannin County Rebels football team made the trek to West Hall to engage in a 100 yard warfare with the home town Spartans. The Rebels routed the Spartans, on West Hall’s homecoming, to the tune of 31-8. Fannin completely dominated the game, out rushing the Spartans 219 to 129; however the Spartans accumulated 17 more yards through the air, 100 to 83. The Spartans just could not penetrate the Rebels’ defense all night. Fannin failed to record a shut out, due to the Spartans scoring a touchdown with 29 seconds left in the game.

The Rebels took the lead early, a mere 1:12 into the game, Trevor Stone scored on a one yard quarterback sneak. Running back, Peyton Satterfield’s, 60 yard run on the first Fannin play from scrimmage set up Stone’s eventual one yard plunge.

The ensuing West Hall drive was cut short by Trevor Stone’s one handed interception, caught off a deflection, that gave the Rebels the ball at the West Hall 49 yard line. Fannin failed to score on the drive, eventually punting the ball back to West Hall.

The first quarter ended with Fannin still in possession of a 7-0 lead. The lead would remain the same until the 5:54 mark in the second quarter. Stone connected with Noah O’Neal for a two yard touchdown pass that capped a 39 yard drive. After a missed extra point, the Rebels led 13-0.

The next West Hall drive saw the Spartans move the ball deep into Rebels’ territory, all the way to the Fannin 26. The Rebels were able to make the Spartans settle for a missed field goal attempt.

On the next possession, Fannin’s Jordan Gray broke a long run for the Rebels. However, he fumbled the ball back to West Hall, and the Rebels went into half time leading 13-0.

The Rebels added another touchdown with 6:24 left in the third, when Stone scored again on an eight yard keeper. After a missed extra point, the Rebels led 19-0.

The home team was officially done a mere 18 seconds of game play later. After the Rebels recovered a fumble on the kick off due to a failed Spartans pitch attempt on the return, Stone connected with O’Neal again on a 23 yard touchdown pass that put Fannin up 25-0 with 6:06 left in the third.

Fannin scored again nine seconds into the fourth quarter. Stone and O’Neal connected for the third time, on a 38 yard touchdown pass and reception that gave Fannin a 31-0 lead.

The lead held until Spartans scored a touchdown and two point conversion with 29 seconds left.

Trevor Stone finished with 83 passing yards and four total touchdowns. Peyton Satterfield led the Rebels with 117 yards on the ground. The Rebels will next face, North Hall, after a week off, on Friday October, 12th.
