Fannin County High School’s top academic performers visited Kennesaw State University and Georgia Tech campuses Thursday, September 20, for a glimpse at academic and campus life.

After a walking tour at Kennesaw State University and a visit with 2012 Fannin High graduate and KSU freshman Alexis Collis, students ate lunch at the famed Varsity restaurant. After lunch, juniors and seniors attended a comprehensive information session and ‘rambled’ through Georgia Tech. Then, the group met up with four FCHS alumni who now study at Georgia Tech:
– Mechanical Engineering major Russell Ralston;
– Computer Science major Matt Dye;
– Computer Science major Crystal Johnston; and
– Electrical Engineering major Luke Adams.

The visit ended with a private tour of an interactive computing research lab, where Tech researchers and graduate students presented projects ranging from a robotic puppet to an augmented reality iPad app.

The visit was spearheaded and funded by the school’s Academic Booster Team. Physics instructor Bubba Gibbs, senior counselor Jennifer Walker, and graduation coach Jill Key organized the trip and were present to bring back information about admissions and scholarship opportunities, including the Georgia Tech Promise Program, a debt-free degree for Georgia families who need it most.
