Post One Commissioner Garnett Webb said farewell to citizens and fellow commissioners this week.In April, Webb announced his candidacy for commission chair, an office currently held by Bill Simonds. Required by law, Webb must leave his post before the qualification deadline, on May 25th. The post will remain vacant until the July 31st election, when a new candidate will be elected to the position. The candidate will serve the remainder of Webb’s term, which extends to November, during the general election. In November, voters will elect a candidate to fill the post for the next, full term. As such, Webb’s last night as post one commissioner was Tuesday night.

He thanked the public, saying it was pleasure to serve the county and to work with Chairman Simonds and Post Two Commissioner Larry Joe Sosebee. Sosebee wished Webb luck in the future. Simonds, however, as Webb’s opponent for the office of Commission Chair, said in jest he wouldn’t wish him good luck, but that he appreciated his service on the school board and the board on commissioners. Webb said he has enjoyed his term on the board of commissioners and that it has been gratifying to be of service to the people of Fannin County.

“I look forward to the next few days being out, talking to the citizens of Fannin County and I look forward to coming back in January as chairman of the board of commissioners,”

he said.
