It’s The Feet Stupid!

Religion

Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth (I John 3:18).

During the 1992 campaign, Bill Clinton often used the phrase, “It’s the economy stupid!” It was the economy and he got the message in time to adapt his campaign and win the election. I want to coin a new phrase: It’s the feet stupid! We could avoid a lot of trouble, pain, and disappointment if we would learn to watch someone’s feet rather than their mouth. It is what they do and not what they say that is ultimately what is important. We live in a declining culture where lying is commonplace on all levels, especially in politics. If we fail to challenge those who don’t follow through then we suffer the consequences.

Our leaders, generally speaking, often tell us lies, half-truths, or spin facts to mean the opposite of what they really are. In all cases, the purpose is to deceive us. Apparently they feel they must deceive us to remain in power because we won’t or can’t accept the truth. Or, they simply don’t want us to know what they are doing in the back rooms.

If people do what they say, if their feet follow their mouth, then they are someone we can usually rely on. As Christians we should always want to be believed and trusted because we do what we say we will. Jesus said, “But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil (Matthew 5:37).”

We represent Christ. People see how we act or fail to act and this reflects on Him. Be sure your mouth and feet are coordinated. This way, you can’t go wrong.
