Homeward Bound Announces Community Wide Meeting

Community

Homeward Bound Pet Rescue Inc. of Gilmer County will be holding a community wide meeting for our organization on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 7:00pm-9:00pm. The location of the meeting is below. The purpose of this meeting is to inform the community about our organization, introduce our current Board Members, gauge interest of new board members and new volunteers, determine level of commitment within the community and increase awareness of the pet problem here within Gilmer County.

As many of you have heard, Homeward Bound has set a date to close our doors as of April 30, 2012 and three of our board members are stepping down from the board as of this date. Our current animal inventory is at 12 cats and 27 dogs for a total of 39 animals. We must rally for new people for the sake of the animals to continue helping the Gilmer County community. We encourage people from Gilmer, Fannin and Cobb County to come to this meeting as well as all other counties. Community & Southern Bank Ellijay Main Branch Bob Cat Den – (Cabin Behind The Bank) 829 Industrial Boulevard, Ellijay, GA 30540
The following are the volunteer board positions that will be open as of 5/1/12: 1. President: VACANT 2. Vice President: VACANT MJ Helms resigning as of 5/1/12 (Ellijay) 3. Treasurer: John Holcomb (Ellijay) 4. Secretary: VACANT Holly Bawlick resigning as of 5/1/12 (Dallas) 5. Board Member At Large: Debbie DeLong (Acworth) 6. Board Member At Large: Georgia Morrow resigning (Ellijay) (this position does not need to be filled for the board).
The following are some of the volunteer positions are needed to keep Homeward Bound running:
1. On-site live in kennel manager to live on site in our camper and oversee the daily operations of our kennel.
2. We have 2 shifts every day at our kennel to care for the animals from 8:30am-11:30am and from 4:30pm-6:30pm. We would like to have 2 people on each shift. Therefore, need to fill four shifts a day, 7 days a week so that is 28 shift spots a week. So, we either need 28 volunteers that can each do one shift a week or 14 volunteers that can each do two shifts a week or something that adds up to covering 28 shifts.
3. We need rotating drivers to cover driving the dogs from our kennel to PetSmart in Kennesaw every Saturday for the adoptions.
4. We need committed trained adoption counselors to handle the adoptions on Saturday’s for the dogs at PetSmart in Kennesaw GA from 11-5. This includes interviewing potential adopters, reviewing applications, making decisions on adoptions, turning down applications, dealing with people, multitasking, overseeing all of the dogs, the volunteers and running the adoption events.
5. We need handymen and people to help with maintenance, cutting the grass, fixing fencing and different odds and ends that are needed along with taking the vans for scheduled maintenance such as oil changes.
Thank you and please spread the word and crosspost this to your local contacts in the area! We hope to see you there!
