No White Wash Vs. White County: Fannin Splits 1-1

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels’ and Rebels’ basketball teams hosted the Lady Warriors and Warriors of White County. The Lady Rebels emerged victorious, battling to a 47-44 win. The Rebels were not nearly as fortunate, as Fannin fell 53-23 in the boys’ gameThe Lady Rebels were in a war with the Lady Warriors, despite leading at the end of every quarter. With FYN POTW Ashley Ellison, running the point, and Hope Cochran’s controlling of the boards, especially on the defensive end, the Lady Rebels took a two point lead, 23-21 into the half.

Amanda Kinser contributed 17 points off the bench, and numerous timely rebounds, to help the Lady Rebels lead 33-30 going into the fourth.

A back and forth fourth quarter was decided, after Kinser’s last free throw of the game made the score 47-44, and a potential game tying three point attempt, by White County, fell short.

Head Coach Suzianne Pass was pleased with the performance.

“We played hard, and I was pleased with their effort. It was a good win and we needed one.”

The Fannin faithful, were treated to an early one point lead, by the home team Rebels; however, once White County came “out to play” and initiated the press, the Warriors went on a 14-4 run to close the first quarter.

The second quarter, began with a White County three pointer followed by a fast break lay up off of a steal, to push the lead to 19-5 quickly. With just over four minutes left in the half, and the score 22-7, Will Mason hit a three to make the score 22-10. The Rebels did not score again in the half, and White County led 33-10 at half time.

The half time festivies featured Fannin’s, Studio One dancers performing a variety of Christmas themed numbers.

Fannin was further outscored in the second half, 20-13 as the White County won 23-23.
