Amicalola EMC Announces Scholarship Opportunities

Rebel's Corner

Amicalola EMC announces scholarship opportunities for high school juniors and seniors.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Amicalola EMC/Walter Harrison Scholarship program. The program is open to high school seniors who plan to attend college. Juniors may apply for the 2012 Washington Youth Tour, an all expense paid week long trip to Washington, DC. All winners and runners-up will be awarded a college scholarship.

Funding for the scholarships comes from unclaimed property, which previously had to be turned over to the state. State law now allows the property to be donated for three approved purposes: education, economic development and certain charities. All donations must be used within the Amicalola EMC service territory. It is important to note that state law will only allow these funds to be used for these approved purposes and will not allow the funds to be used to offset rates or pay power bills.

Applications will be accepted from students who reside in an Amicalola EMC household.
The deadline to enter both programs is January 20, 2012. For more information, please contact Stacey Fields at [email protected] or 706-253-5287.

Amicalola EMC is a not-for profit electric cooperative which provides electricity and related services to over 45,000 locations in north Georgia in Bartow, Cherokee, Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gordon, Lumpkin, Murray and Pickens counties.
