Fannin Falls to Robbinsville, as Knights Out-Joust Rebels

The Fannin County High School Rebels and Lady Rebels basketball teams hosted the Knights of Robbinsville. Fannin fell in both games as the Lady Rebels could not puncture the Knights armor, and lost in overtime 41-36. The boys’ team lost 46-40.The girls’ game was a back and forth affair, that featured Fannin coming from behind to take a half time lead of 22-15, after Fannin fell behind 11-7 at the end of the first.

The Lady Rebels had a tough time penetrating the Knights’ defense, as Fannin was unable to score more than two points in the quarter. The knights, however, were able to score nine, and tied the game going into the third at 24 a piece.

The fourth quarter saw each team score 10 points, forcing overtime. Much like the aforementioned third quarter, the Lady Rebels struggled offensively, therefore, despite holding Robbinsville to seven points in overtime, Fannin fell 41-36.

Tenacious “D” was the theme of the day, as points were harder to find than Jack Black’s waist line. The boys’ struggled offensively as only nine total points were scored in the first quarter. The Rebels took a 5-4 lead into the second quarter.

An 8-0 run by the knights saw the home team down 12-5 with 5:40 left in the half, before Luke Adams broke the drought with a free throw, and Johnathan Vecchio’s tip in of Adams’ missed second attempt made the score 12-8. They sparked a 5-0 run that cut the lead to two with just over four minutes left in the half.

The Rebels outscored the visiting Knights 9-6 over the last 4:05 of the half, to take a one point, 19-18, lead into half time.

Defense dominated the third quarter as neither team scored double digit points. The Knights outscored the Rebels 9-6 to take a 27-25 lead into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was a virtual explosion of points, compared to the rest of the game, as the Knights scored 19 and the Rebels scored 15, leading to a six point victory for the Knights.
