The Fannin County High School Rebels wrestling team hosted the first dual meets of the season, and of new head coach, Joshua Snider’s career. The Rebels were able to split 1-1, as Fannin fell to Gainesville, 42-33 in the first match of the day; however, Fannin bounced back, as the Rebels rose over Murphy 42-39.The Red Elephants of Gainesville ran out to a quick start, that the Rebels could not rebel against. Fannin was down early and was never able to recover as the Red Elephants pulled out a 42-33 victory.

Fannin faced the Murphy Mountaineers in the last match of the day. The match was much more competitive than the early match between Fannin and Gainesville. Both teams traded wins and pins throughout the contest; however, the Rebels eventually emerged the winner with a three point 42-39 victory.
Throughout the night the Rebels repeatedly chose “neutral” as opposed to “bottom”. A strategy chosen by Snider because,
“whenever we got taken down early we were getting killed on bottom.”
Snider also spoke about the pressure, or lack there of, of seeing his father, Gilmer High School wrestling coach Sam Snider, in the audience.
“No pressure, just encouragement. It’s always good to see him.”
