The Lady Rebels shut out the Lady Wildcats 10-0.After the junior varsity team walloped the Lady Wildcats, 15-0 in two and 2/3 innings, the varsity team went to work. With senior, Sadie Golden, on the mound, the Lady Rebels allowed only one batter to reach first in the first inning.

The bottom of the first inning saw the Lady Rebels road to victory begin. Following a ground out by lead off batter, Missy Dixon, Ashley Watkins hit a line drive single to center field. After a Fannin fly out, Alexis Collis hit a single to right field. With women on first and second, Candace “Blitzkrieg” German hit her second home run of the week, making the score 3-0 in Fannin’s favor. The Lady Rebels’ defense once again allowed only one base runner, and the Lady Wildcats were held scoreless, bringing up the bottom of the second.

Kelley Watkins led off in the second for the Rebels, with a single to short. Emily Morgason followed with bunt. She was able to reach second base, due to an overthrow at first. Golden’s RBI bunt single, put Fannin up 4-0. Morgan Ross, who was brought in as courtesy runner for Golden, was eventually thrown out, trying to steal home. Morgason was left stranded on third, following two more Lady Rebels’ outs.

Golden hit the first Lady Wildcat batter of the third inning; however, following two fly outs, the Rabun runner was picked off in an attempted steal of second base.

Karly Thompson led off in the bottom of the third with a line drive single to center field. She immediately stole second on an errant pitch. Alexis Collis followed with a double to center. German’s base clearing single was aided by Rabun errors that allowed her to make it to third. With the score 6-0 in Fannin’s favor, and the game quickly becoming a laugher, McLaughlin, hit a line drive single, immediately followed by German’s home invasion on an errant pitch, that made the score 7-0. McLaughlin came home on Kelley Watkins’ RBI single, putting the Lady Rebels up 8-0.

Morgason struck out, but was able to reach first after the Lady Wildcats’ catcher failed to keep her paws on the ball. However, the Lady Rebels were unable to capitalize, due to a ground out, and Morgason’s unsuccessful attempt at stealing home, closing the inning.

In a recurring theme for the Lady Wildcats, Rabun once again had only one batter reach first in the top of the fourth, as the visitors were retired in four batters.

The top of the fourth began with Thompson’s ground out, followed immediately by Collis’ double, which was a hair’s breath away from being a home run. German followed with an RBI double that put Fannin up 9-0. McLaughlin’s RBI single, provided the last score of the game.

The Lady Rebels, retired Rabun’s batters in succession, with three straight ground outs in the top of the fifth, leading to a 10-0 shut out victory for the Fannin Faithful in attendance to cherish.
