Fannin Falls at Gilmer

On a night when the home school was celebrating the 300th victory of the coach, the Fannin Rebels’ fell hard in the three dual matches at Gilmer High School. The Rebels went 0-3 against the Phoenix of Sonoraville, the home school Bobcats, and the Spartans of West Hall, with a combined score of 153-58.The Rebels’ long night began with a dual match against the Phoenix. The Rebels were unable to rise up against the state runner up in AA. The rebels were held to 16 total team points coming on two pins, worth six teams points a piece, and one major win, worth 4 team points. Technical pins (when one wrestler is ahead by 15 match points) are worth five, and minor wins (less than 8 match points) are worth 3 team points. The Phoenix scored 65.

The Rebels were next matched up against the host school, the Gilmer Bobcats, who had just recorded their head coach’s 300th win. The hosts were less than hospitable, racing out to 55-0 lead which featured seven pins, before the Rebels got on the board with consecutive pins in the 11th and 12th match of the duals. There are 13 matches in each dual, one for each weight class. The final score was 61-12.

After facing one state runner up, and one defending champion, Sonoraville and Gilmer respectively, the Rebels fared better against the Spartans of West Hall. They managed to score 30 points against the Spartans, including three pins, although they lost 47-30.
